Mark E. Whitten, M.D.Dr. Mark E. Whitten has been practicing ophthalmology in Washington, D.C. for over two decades, and is recognized by his peers as one of the finest and most skilled surgeons in the United States. An expert in refractive surgery, Dr. Whitten is the Regional Medical Director for TLC Laser Eye Centers.
Dr. Whitten received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his residency and chief residency at the Washington National Eye Center at Washington Hospital Center. Previously, Dr. Whitten has functioned as Chairman of the Board at Washington Hospital Center.
Dr. Whitten is the past Chairman of the Medical Society of D.C. and past President of the Washington Ophthalmology Society. As a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Whitten brings his extensive medical knowledge and experience to TLC Whitten Laser Eye. He has personally performed over 75,000 LASIK procedures. As a clinical instructor for VISX, he continues to teach surgical techniques to other ophthalmologists. Dr. Whitten began performing Laser Vision Correction in January of 1996.
L. Edward Perraut, Jr., M.D.L. Edward Perraut, Jr., MD, also brings 20 years of ophthalmic expertise to the TLC Whitten Laser Eye team. He has functioned as the premier referral surgeon for laser treatment of retinal disorders in the Washington area. Dr. Perraut has served as the Chairman of the Board for the Washington National Eye Center, as president of the Washington, D.C. Ophthalmological Society and president of the Ophthalmology section of the Washington, D.C. Medical Society. He has taught at numerous medical centers including Georgetown University Hospital, George Washington University Hospital, Washington Hospital Center and Children's Hospital National Medical Center.
Dr. Perraut is a graduate of Princeton University and received his medical degree from the University of Maryland Medical School. He served as Chief Resident of the Ophthalmology department at the Washingto! N Washington Hospital Center and completed his Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Perraut is a laser vision correction specialist and has been performing LASIK exclusively since 1999. He has performed more than 20,000 procedures, and is recognized by VISX as a "Visx Star Surgeon" (ranking him in the top 5% of LASIK surgeons across the country). He regularly lectures on laser vision correction, especially on the latest technology. He teaches other surgeons how to perform the procedure.
