What
is
 LASIK?

LASIK (Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) surgery is a permanent procedure that will improve vision quality. LASIK reshapes the cornea, and can correct vision problems such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.

Customized LASIK is the next generation, using the latest technology to customize a treatment for your unique vision imperfections. The procedure is quick and results are immediate. LASIK takes about 30 minutes to complete, with little or no discomfort, and yields incredible results. Whitten Laser Eye is equipped with state-of-the-art laser technology that minimizes problems associated with older generation lasers, such as night vision reduction, glare and halos. The Allegretto Wave laser at the Southern Maryland location is the only one of it kind outside the beltway. And the IntraLase IFS flap-making laser is the only one in the state of Maryland.

LASIK has been proven to have long lasting results, with a high degree of safety. This procedure has been available in the United States for over two decades and is both safe and effective. LASIK surgery is currently the most popular and successful vision correction procedure available. The majority of patients achieve 20/20 vision, and some have even better results! Over 30 million procedures have been performed worldwide, and more people are considering LASIK everyday!

The LASIK Procedure

This laser eye surgery is quick with little or no discomfort. Your visit to the office will be short, and the actual surgery will take less than 30 minutes. During the procedure, a small flap is created in the outer layer of the cornea and gently lifted. A cool-beam excimer laser then reshapes the cornea. This laser is programmed specifically for your unique vision imperfections based on your pre-surgery evaluation.

Finally, the flap is gently returned to its original place, where it instantly begins healing. Most people see well immediately. Our most frequent comment is, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”

Trusting Whitten Laser Eye and Dr. Whitten can give you the confidence to finally make the LASIK decision. Because of the quick recovery time associated with the procedure, you can be back to your daily routine only a day after your LASIK procedure. Your vision will continue to improve over the few weeks as your eyes heal and adjust to their new shape.

Who is eligible?

LASIK is appropriate for patients who are 18 and older and who have a stable eye prescription. This procedure can treat an array of vision problems, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It is fast and FREE to schedule a comprehensive evaluation. Dr. Whitten and his staff will determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK, and begin planning a treatment customized just for your eyes.
