Most insurance companies do not cover LASIK, considering it an elective procedure. There are some, however, that do cover the procedure. This can be a complicated matter. If you believe that you have coverage, please contact our benefits coordinator at 1-800-626-LASER(5273), so we can obtain your insurance information, confirm your coverage, and inform you of our findings prior to surgery.

A Flexible Benefits Plan, or "Cafeteria Plan" is a specific type of employer benefit plan which allows beneficiaries to receive tax-free reimbursements for eligible health care expenses. These are provided for under Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code giving employers the provision of Flexible Benefits to their employees.

Generally, such plans allow you to elect how much you want to set aside for health care expenses such as laser vision correction during the plan year. This amount is deducted from your pay in equal installments per pay period, before taxes on those dollars.

Thus, if either you or your spouse are covered under this type of plan, you can significantly reduce the cost of your surgery. Your savings will depend upon your tax rate and the amount you set aside.

Check with your plan administrator for more information regarding your specific plan. Be advised that all the money in your account must be used by the end of your plan year or it will be forfeited. This could be the perfect time to take advantage of your benefits plan, and put it to work for a clear eye toward the future.
